The SIFAS Festival is here again ! The 14 th edition of this festival, commencing on 24th March, 2016 will comprise 5 programmes at the Esplanade featuring artistes of international repute and Kala Vaibhavam, with daily performances at the SIFAS Auditorium featuring over 50 upcoming local and regional artists over a two week period.
The international artistes include Padmashree Sudha Ragunathan, a Carnatic vocal artiste par excellence, Meenakshi Srinivasan, a passionate and path breaking Bharatanatyam dancer; Pandit Jayateerth Mevundi, renowned Hindustani classical vocalist; Lalgudi GJR Krishnan and Sriram Parasuram, both illustrious violin players, playing a violin duet in the Carnatic and Hindustani styles, Surupa Sen and Bijayini Satpathy, Odissi danceuses from the well known Nrityagram school of dance in India.
The SIFAS Festival is also one of the first festivals in Singapore dedicated to Indian performing arts.

Considered a doyen of the Kirana Gharana or school of music, Jayateerth Mevundi was recognised as a “Young Maestro in Music” by former Indian President Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam.

Well known internationally and back in Singapore by popular demand, Sudha Ragunathan has made a name for herself with her mellifluous and lilting voice, masterly presentations and wide repertoire.

Meenakshi Srinivasan, a consummate dancer with a dynamic stage presence, embodies both the sensitive and the playful in her dance. She will present the story of Sita, the heroine of the epic Ramayana

Lalgudi Krishnan, an upholder of the Lalgudi Jayaraman tradition, is an outstanding musician today, who is well known for his melody and remarkable technique on the violin. Sriram Parasuram, one of India’s leading musicians today, plays the violin in Hindustani and Carnatic styles. They come together in a unique confluence of Carnatic and Hindustani styles of violin playing.

Songs of Love and Longing is based on poet Jayadeva’s 12th century romantic ballad, Gita Govinda. Danseuses Surupa Sen and Bijayini Satpathy have researched and expanded the dance vocabulary of the Odissi dance form and have developed a style that is unique to the Nrityagram School, Bangalore.
