Review: Main Aur Charles

MAIN AUR CHARLES… The movie ‘Main Aur Charles’, based on the life of the serial killer ‘Charles Sobhraj’, should be renamed to ‘Confused Main, Aur Unclear Charles’; because that’s what one would feel after the movie ends. The story and script of the movie was like an Indian ‘Samosa’. In case of a samosa, in order to enjoy the tasty soft stuffing part, you first have to bite through the crispy crust, which no one actually likes to eat but eats anyways. The same goes for the movie. You will have to endure through the rest of the movie only…

‘Drishyam’ is just another remake of some South Indian film; that is what many would say. I, although, beg to differ. The movie might be a remake amongst many other things, but, it is certainly not ‘just a remake’. It is a movie with a gripping storyline, an airtight plot and presentation that is rare in the present Bollywood era. This movie has many ‘after a long time’ events in it. It is a slowly progressing suspense thriller which is hardly seen in Bollywood today. Ajay Devgan plays a very serious character and he hardly makes you laugh which has…

The name of this movie was itself ridiculed by many; which was granted, considering the unique and unusual theme-line that the name suggested. Of course the ‘Marvel’ readers already knew how awesome the concept was in the comics and they anticipated the movie to be awesome-er. Unfortunately, ‘Marvel’ readers of not, you will be a little let down when you watch the movie; at least till half-time that is. The movie is very unlike typical Marvel movies, as all the action you can witness until half time is a punch by a very very old man. But then, if you…

Every time you watch a ‘Terminator’ movie, you think that this is the best they can do it and then they come up with something better. ‘Terminator-Genisys’, the latest addition to the ‘Terminator Movie Franchise’, is no exception. Along with the usual machine versus human action, this part also takes us to a deeper philosophical level of machine-human bonding which takes the original ‘Terminator’s (Arnold’s)’ character to a whole new level of maturity. But even that is done in an unconventional, bullets-and-blasts kind of manner. The writing also seems to have matured along with the Terminator character. Unlike the previous…

‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’ is one of those movies, which emphasizes on the fact that good writing is the most important part of a movie, and that bad writing cannot be covered up with other great aspects. The movie is a multi-storied building with exclusively designed floors of acting, direction, cinematography, screenplay, photography etc. But the whole building, even with its great design, is bound to collapse due to its weak foundation of a ‘taken for granted’ treatment of writing. Story/Script/ Screenplay: - In my opinion, ‘Hamari Adhoori Kahani’ could have been a blockbuster without its script and story. No, seriously.…

A Dinosaur Movie About Human Emotions Jurassic world is one of those rare movies that I could not (rather should not) critically appraise based on conventional areas of filmmaking like direction, writing, acting, etc., as this movie goes way beyond established conventions. Along with a futuristic portrayal of the genetics technology, which is highly advanced already; the movie also dives into the depth of human psyche to rediscover the virtues that are nearly lost in the present business -oriented world. Hence as the movie is unconventional, this review is also based on unconventional topics rather than regular filmmaking.   Genetic…

A REVIEW: ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’

8 years ago     Leave your thoughts

By a member of the 'Think Aloud' family...a well written, well articulated review..! DIL DHADAKNE DO...! Directed by ‘Zoya Akhtar’ ‘Dil Dhakadkne Do’ is a totally unusual story, about a highly dysfunctional, but filthily rich family, narrated by a dog. YES.. a dog. Story/Script/Screenplay: The story revolves around the ‘Mehra Family’ and their well concealed interpersonal issues, that they have to face and solve on a cruise booked for the marriage anniversary of ‘Mr. and Mrs. Mehra’. The writing is really unusual and totally unlike the other Zoya Akhtar Movies. This film is unusual right from its inception. As mentioned,…
